Meer dan drie decennia geleden zetten B-Real, Sen Dog en DJ Muggs een trip in gang die de popcultuur stoned, verbijsterd en wankelend achterliet in afwachting van meer. Cypress Hill was geboren. De groep vernoemde zichzelf naar een straat in Los Angeles en brak in 1991 door met de release van hun gelijknamige debuutalbum. De singles How I Could Just Kill a Man en The Phuncky Feel One werden underground hits, en het publieke pro-marijuana standpunt van de groep leverde veel fans op binnen de alternatieve rock-community. Sinds de release van het debuut heeft Cypress Hill voor een revolutie in de rap gezorgd. De vooruitstrevende teksten van B-Real en Sen Dog, karakteristieke klanken en aangrijpende straatgerichte topics gaven de groep de status van superster. En meer dan 30 jaar na het debuut wist Cypress Hill dat het nóg meer te bieden had, te horen op het nieuwste werk Back in Black.

"Dit album is een terugkeer naar onze roots", aldus Sen Dog. "Vroeger waren we trotse hiphoppers en we hebben het allemaal meegemaakt. We zijn er trots op dat we deel uitmaken van de hiphopindustrie. Een echte hip-hop joint maken was de way to go". Back in Black bewijst het gelijk van Cypress Hill. Opnieuw.
