De Zweedse rockband Europe katapulteerde zichzelf in 1986 naar de stratosfeer met het album The Final Countdown en de daarvan afkomstige hits Rock The Night, Carrie en het titelnummer. Met hun naar glamrock neigende hardrock bleef Europe ook daarna razend populair, tot ze er in 1992 het yxa (Zweeds voor ‘bijltje’) erbij neergooiden. In 2003 kwam de band weer bij elkaar en sindsdien hebben ze vijf prima albums uitgebracht, met War Of Kings (2015) als jongste wapenfeit. De muziek is iets donkerder geworden en de stem van Joey Tempest wat lager, maar dat maakt Europe eigenlijk alleen maar beter!
