At a young age, the talent manifests itself in Sheila Escevedo, who literally gets the love for drums and percussion poured in at an early age. Her father Pete Escevedo can also do some of it, but in terms of productivity, creativity and popularity, his daughter has now surpassed him by a wide margin. We are of course talking about the one and only miss Sheila E.!

She plays with George Duke, Herbie Hancock, Billy Cobham, Con Funk Shun, Marvin Gaye, Diana Ross, Lionel Richie, Gloria Estefan, Patti LaBelle and Stevie Nicks. The best known is of course her work with Prince, she belongs to the regular entourage of His Royal Badness for many years, and can be heard on several albums. She steals the show on the funkiest b-side of all time, Erotic City. But with The Belle of St. Mark, Holly Rock, The Glamourous Life and A Love Bizarre, she has of course also sung the necessary bona fide classics in her own name into the international charts.

In addition to her adventures with Prince, she plays drums in the band of another drummer who can also be seen as rock royalty, namely Ringo Starr. She is also musical director for Jennifer Lopez and Beyoncé, among others, but most importantly: she is still a bandleader and still performs in that capacity.
