De geschiedenis van The Libertines is op z’n zachtst gezegd rumoerig. Maar zonder wrijving geen glans en ondanks – of juist dankzij – die spanningen is de band uitgegroeid tot mythische proporties. De eerste twee albums, 'Up the Bracket' en 'The Libertines' werden begin 21e eeuw uitgebracht. Het derde album ‘Anthems for Doomed Youth’ is uitgebracht in 2015 en laat wederom horen waarom The Libertines in één adem worden genoemd met The Sex Pistols, The Jam, The Clash en The Smiths.
